The Louis Sullivan Welcome Center

Designed and built by the renowned American architect Louis H. Sullivan in 1914, the Home Building Association bank opened to the people of Licking County in 1915, garnering national acclaim for its intricate mosaic tile work, fanciful terra-cotta façade, and hand-stenciled interior murals that exemplify Sullivan's bold design aesthetic. This rich history is still alive in every corner of the building, connecting us to the past and intriguing us about the present.

Known as one of Sullivan's eight Jewel Box banks, this building, anchoring the corner of Third and Main in downtown Newark, has been everything from a financial institution to an ice cream parlor over the last 110 years. Today, after a decade-long, multi-million dollar adaptive reuse restoration, it proudly serves as the County's official Welcome Center, a warm and inviting space for all visitors, and the home of Explore Licking County.

When visiting, you can expect not only to be amazed by the stunning transformation of all three floors of the building, but also to learn about Licking County's many attractions and points of interest. Complete with modern-day amenities, curated events, and docent-led tours, the Sullivan Welcome Center is the perfect place to begin your journey with style and the artistic flair that the building was intended to inspire in all of us.
